Los Angeles Portrait Photographer - Day Off at the Getty

As a business owner, it can be tough to try to take a day off.  I never know if a day off can set me back in customer fulfillment, follow up calls or general business momentum.  There is that plus an instilled belief that only through hard work am I going to reach my business goals.

Little thought is ever given to personal health, rest or balance.  Knowing that these things are equally important to hard work, I need to stop feeling guilty about taking time off to refresh.

I had been putting off a solo visit to the Getty since January.  One thing or another continued to come up every time I placed this visit on the calendar.  Instead of reserving the day, I would make it unimportant by accommodating the needs of the business.

Finally, I had the opportunity to discuss this feeling with Ted Moreno.  With Ted's advice, i was able to move past the feeling of guilt and accept that;

1.  The mind needs time off to refresh and inspired.  A stagnant mind will make you less productive anyway so you might as well enjoy the time off.

2.  I was going to the Getty.  This is an opportunity to do what I love to do, which is study art.  Study composition, light, posing and perspective.  This in turn would only improve my portrait work for my clients. In essence, I'm working while still taking the day off!

I made a short video while I was there.  Here it is for your viewing pleasure.
