Happy Birthday Lola

My grandmother through marriage will be turning 89 this weekend. The plan was for each family of her grandchildren, to record a 30 second video wishing her a happy birthday. Each video would be edited together to present on her birthday.

I thought it would be a great time to try something new. So, I captured over 200 photos with my camera in secession. I took these photos while my wife and daughter made Happy Birthday signs and presented each. I stitched the photos together and added music.

The result was an animated short. I would love to experiment with this animation concept more often. I hope that you like it.

Weekend Getaway

We joined our good friends on a mini vacation to Ensenada, Mexico last weekend. This is our 2nd year in which we rent a beach home in Estero Beach. The house is literally steps from the ocean. It's really relaxing.

We had the opportunity to pick fresh fish from the port markets and grill a nice dinner.

Pasadena Social & Wedding Mixer

On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of meeting with very dynamic, pleasant and determined group of wedding professionals. I had an excellent time listening to ideas and really enjoyed the fact that each professional was client focused. I'm looking forward to hosting more.

We met at Madeleines Restaurant & Wine Bistro in Pasadena. In attendance were:

In the City

I had the chance to photograph a very fun couple this past weekend in Downtown. Celeste and Bob will be married this July.

They are a couple of funny accountants. I mean really funny people. Bob's has a great sense of humor. Both are wonderful and genuine.

Broken Paradise

Cecilia Samartin is the author of the novel "Broken Paradise". She is also the author of a soon to be named second novel.

I was commissioned by Cecilia's wonderful PR Firm, Latino Consultants to photograph Cecilia for upcoming projects. Cecilia is a very warm and kind person. She was also very easy to photograph.

Here are a few from our session...

Traditionals

It was an honor to have the opportunity to photograph a session displaying a family of 3 generations.

These were taken with all natural light, outdoors on a studio backdrop. I love how the natural light wraps around each person. I actually got the idea based on viewing studio set ups from the silent film era. I would love to do more traditional portraits with this type of arrangement.

I need to come up with a fancy name though...

Photos with an Old Friend

I know it's been awhile since my last post. I'm getting back on track and will be posting a few recent projects shortly.

A few weeks ago, I was a guest at a family wedding. I took an old friend with me. I took the very first camera I ever owned. I have had this camera since 1987. I remember that about that time, my mother's Nikon that I was borrowing for school, was taken from our home when once burglarized.

A few months later, I inherited a pristine Nikon FE from my father. He purchased this Nikon sometime in the mid-seventies. When he gave it to me, it was as if it was brand new. Anyhow, I still have this camera and the same 50mm lens since then. I used both to take a few photos at this wedding.

I miss film. These were all taken on TMAX 400 pushed to 1600. No flash used. It's hard to find a digital that can yield these results in low light.
